The latest European project dealing with Cooperative – Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) kicked off in Barcelona in June, building on the work of previous projects CO-GISTICS and Compass4D.
The C-Mobile Project, also known as “Accelerating C-ITS Mobility Innovation and deployment in Europe”, took place on the 6th and 7th of June in Barcelona, Spain, at the European Commission’s representation. The main objective of the C-MobiLE project is to support the large-scale deployment of C-ITS services across Europe.
The project, an Innovation Action co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 funding scheme, also aims to raise awareness of C-ITS technology and services and to cooperate on training initiatives across the EU. Cooperation between C-Mobile and other organisations, not only in Europe but across the world, will be an important aspect of the project.
The project also aims to build a C-ITS framework and to develop a Strategic Research Agenda to identify the best C-ITS solutions. This will involve assessing the real-life benefits of C-ITS applications, their integration and bundling, and the large-scale demonstrations of these solutions to illustrate added value and economic viability of these services.
C-MobILE will run for three and a half years, finishing at the end of November 2020 as it carries out large scale testing and deployment across Europe. Eight cities have been selected as pilot sites for the project including Barcelona, Thessaloniki, Vigo, Newcastle, Copenhagen, Bordeaux, Bilbao and the North Brabant region.
