Stakeholder workshop on Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems

February 9, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

In many respects, today’s vehicles are already connected devices linked and integrated into our ever more digital lifestyle. However, to make transport systems safer and more efficient, vehicles need to directly interact with each other and with road infrastructure. Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) allow road users and traffic managers to share and use information and coordinate their actions.

On 30 November 2016, the Commission adopted its European strategy on Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems. This is an important milestone towards cooperative, connected and automated mobility.

For aspects where legal certainty is needed, the strategy foresees the preparation of a delegated regulation on C-ITS to add or amend aspects to the ITS Directive 2010/40/EU. An impact assessment is being carried out by the Commission services and our consortium’s input to this process is very much welcome. The inception impact assessment for this initiative has been published and an online public consultation is open until 5 January 2018.

The European Commission is also organising a dedicated stakeholder workshop, its objective is to gather specific information and data as well as exchange views and suggestions from experts and stakeholders.

The meeting takes place on Friday 9 February 2018 from 09:30 to 17:00 at the Borschette conference centre (room 3B), Rue Froissart 36, B-1040 Brussels.

The morning session will include presentations by the consultant on the impact assessment study and the results of the online public consultation. Stakeholders will also have the opportunity to offer their own views.

The afternoon session is aimed at experts in the field, and will focus on the policy options and deployment scenarios underpinning the impact assessment, including an exercise allowing all stakeholders present to offer detailed views and help to correct or amend the analytical approach.

A detailed agenda will be before the meeting and presentations will be made available to participants after the meeting.

If you would wish to participate in this meeting, please register using the following link by Friday 26 January 2018: registration questionnaire. Please indicate if you would like to make a specific contribution or presentation at the meeting. We will consider such proposals and revert to you prior to the meeting.

We anticipate a high level of interest in attending the meeting. Please be aware that we may have to limit the number of delegates from your organisation in view of the number of available seats in the meeting room.
